excuses for fatToo often, when it comes to weight loss, our biggest enemy is no one but ourselves. Our negative thought patterns, along with our false beliefs and perceptions about fat loss, prevent us from reaching our goals. So if you really want to see results, here are some of the major negative thought patterns that you have to overcome.

It’s too hard. I can’t do it.

Cutting back on your favourite treats. Saying “no” to chocolates and sweets. Do these make you feel terrified? Well, weight loss does get a little tough at times. But it’s simply a matter of establishing healthy habits. It is difficult at first. But the moment eating less and favouring nutritious over fatty, highly processed foods, become part of your daily routine, it’s going to be a lot, lot easier! Plus, you really don’t have to avoid the foods you love. You can enjoy them without having to over indulge.

Losing weight means getting hungry all the time.

Many people think that their diet (NO, I hate the word diet – let’s call it a healthy eating plan) isn’t working when they are not starving. This is a big misconception. A good and healthy eating plan doesn’t leave you feeling hungry. In fact, it keeps you full without feeling guilty. Foods that are low in calories but high in nutrition include whole grains, fresh produce like vegetables and fruits, nuts, and fish.

I’ll start next week.

This is a MASSIVE stumbling block to weight loss success. If you want to see results, you need to start making changes not tomorrow, not next week, but TODAY.

Just because you are attending a wedding or going for a vacation this weekend doesn’t mean you should postpone your plans to start eating healthily and losing weight until next time. Today is the perfect time to learn, fail, overcome challenges, and make a big difference in your life.

I can eat freely because I work out.

Many people try to make exercise a smart excuse to eat more. But to see positive results fast, healthy eating and physical activity must go hand in hand. This very common negative weight loss mentality makes it hard for people to lose excess fats and maintain a normal weight.

I won’t make it.

Many people give up even before they start trying. You probably have read and heard about a lot of people who successfully lost so much weight. So don’t think it is impossible.

Regardless of what size you are now, you can be as fit and lean as you want to be. But as the saying goes – no pain, no gain. Of course you have to push yourself and sweat out a bit more. Nonetheless, as weeks and months pass by, you will experience a significant improvement on how you look and feel!

I need to push harder.

To see results, you need to push yourself past those old plateaux. If you have been sedentary for a long time, don’t ever attempt an intensive form of workout without the guidance of a fitness professional. Otherwise, you might just get injured.

Hiring a personal trainer is a great idea, especially if you are still not used to exercising. Start slow, and increase the intensity over time. That’s the right way to make exercise a habit! Weight loss can be challenging, but it is achievable. And you can start by identifying the mindsets that are holding you back from getting the results you want, and overcoming them.

Also, you would be best advised to speak to a qualified therapist if you think you suffer from any mental blocks to healthy eating – it could be that your emotions are controlling your eating habits. Emotional eating, compulsive eating, boredom eating… all types of mental issues which contribute to negative eating habits.

Hypnosis has been proven to be very successful in alleviating and breaking down negative eating habits.
