As if your anxiety is not bad enough already… What happens if you become nervous about anxiety itself?

More often, nowadays, my clients tell me about how their anxiety about anxiety adds to the original anxiety, and so escalates the discomfort; but this isn’t even the worst part.

The most destructive part of secondary anxiety is that by resisting and fearing the initial anxiety, you obscure your instinctive capacity to access your problem-solving mind.

Stop your Anxiety

Anxiety often starts as a build up of worrying thoughts followed by, feeling overwhelmed and then the physical symptoms begin. Sometimes the worry can even leads to a full-blown panic attacks… and they’re horrible.

Occasionally you notice the physical symptoms first because you’re unaware that your subconscious mind (that’s the emotional, memory filled part) is going over and over something that’s happened in your past – that you fear will happen again.

The attacks usually produce heart palpitations, extreme sweating, blushing, shaking, nausea and sometimes if you’re really unlucky… actual vomit.

Supercharge your Networking Mindset

Your first major challenge to effective networking is to understand that networking is not inherently sleazy.

I know both men and women who have this particular opinion. When you’ve been raised in a way that encourages modesty and humility – you may feel particularly averse to networking because it is sometimes thought of as a combination of bragging about yourself and using people.

Some people that I’ve spoken to actually feel dirty after engaging in ‘instrumental networking’ (i.e., networking with the goal of advancement).
